Having a BOILER ISSUE? Check These Things First:

Is your boiler on the fritz? If your system is experiencing issues turning on or while running don't have a panic attack! Your system could be having a problem due to something simple, there are a few things we recommend checking on your system before calling a professional:

  • The first thing to do is check that your gas is on. If you have a heating system that uses LP or oil, make sure you have fuel in your tank.
  • Make sure your thermostat is set to on and is currently in heating operation.
  • Your breaker might have a had a nuisance trip, find your circuit breaker and make sure your system switch hasn't tripped.
  • Extend your eye beyond the boiler switch to check if it is turned on. This is typically an older toggle switch and may or may not have a red cover plate.
  • If you fire up your gas-fired boiler with a pilot light, examine it. If the pilot is out, give it an attempt to re-ignite it.
  • Does a particular section of your house or system zone not heating up? It may be air-bound. If you have radiator bleed valves, try removing this excess air.
  • Are some of your zones not working? Does your system use zone valves to control the heating? If so, some of your valves can be opened manually to get heat into the cold zone. While this won't be a permanent solution, it will help you out.
  • Is the water level in your boiler too low? There should be 12 - 15 psi on the heating side of your boiler. If there is not try adding water to your system through your system water feed valve.
